Geneva, 2012

This small lake is the result of a “thanksgiving”. Living in Geneva I frequented a Spanish language bookstore: Albatros. I always had a close relationship with Rodrigo, the person who took care of it. When it was time to return to London, I wanted to gift him something. I chose the book that accompanied me on my trip to Geneva “The Empty Mountain”, by Wang Wei. I chose to illustrate one of his poems: “Lake Yi”, because it speaks of friendship and parting. The result went a bit from its intended goal. Thus, the lake yi, stayed with me and so did Rodrigo. I already had more adequate care. When I write this, it is November 25,and I just discovered that Rodrigo is Peruvian and the translation, introduction and the notes of “the empty mountain” are by Guillermo Dañino (Trujillo, Peru, 1929). Many things in Geneva were surrounded by mystery, the lake or the mountain?.
